Preliminary thoughts on Project 1. Colin Gleason
Our first project is on the Dweck TED talk, and Lukianoff and Haidt’s Atlantic article. The assignment is a four to five page paper that compares and contrasts the two different articles. We have to state our position and who we agree with on the different approaches to learning in higher educations. When Cripps told us about our first essay, I was immediately a little scared, because my essay writing is definitely not my strong suit. The hardest part of an essay has to be the thesis statement. Once I get a good thesis, I will be able to write a good essay. I think I agree with Dwecks ideas and thoughts on higher education, more than I agree with Lukianoff and Haidt’s. Dweck seemed to have more progressive ways to teach people how to actually succeed in the real world. Dweck emphasized teaching effort, attitude, and a growth mindset. The growth mindset is key, because with a positive mindset and a mindset that is equipped to accept challenges and taking action to work to solve there own problems, rather than being a trained robot to do certain assigned problems.
