Critical thinking and the Liberal Arts Colin Gleason

Critical thinking and the Liberal Arts Colin Gleason

Pre-Reading: I feel like the title “Critical Thinking and the Liberal Arts” is going to quite obviously be about critical thinking and liberal arts. I think it is going to be more about the way critical thinking is taught to students in school. With the theme of critical analysis in our previous readings, this article is going to be about how to teach students how to think critically. Based un the title of the article, I think the meaning of…

SAMPLE I ORIGINAL In a class at law class at Harvard, students asked the professor “not to teach rape law-or, in one case, even use the word violate lest it cause students distress.” (Lukianoff/Haidt) SAMPLE I REVISION Colleges and Universities have become sensitive to safe spaces and it has gotten to a point where students do not want to learn about topics that are deemed offensive or controversial. Lukianoff and Haidt mention topics that are crucial to education yet students…

Some of the students reacted in a “shockingly positive way.” Dweck saw that these kids “understood that their abilities could be developed. They had what I call a growth mindset.” Some of the students reacted in a “shockingly positive way.” (Dweck) saw that these kids “understood that their abilities could be developed. I say and Barclays Formula Revising Colin Gleason

I say and Barclays Formula Revising Colin Gleason

Para 1 original: Lukianoff and Haidt’s main idea is similar to Dweck’s in teaching students how to think. A major part of there article is that students who are in college are in an environment that is less focused on education, and more concerned with political correctness and making sure everyone is comfortable in the classroom. Teachers and students together are scared to make comments that could potentially offend people by making microaggressions towards them. This creates an almost impossible…

Podcast 1 Colin Gleason

https://colingleason.podbean.com/e/une-dining-halls/ From making this podcast, I learned how to correctly make a podcast with an intro, Outro, and some sick music. It took a little bit of a learning curve to get music into the podcast, and to learn how to use the tools, but I think it came out pretty good. The hardest part was making the podcast flow together nicely which I will get the hang of as time goes on.

4 Moves, Dweck, Lukianoff/Haidt, Roth, Colin Gleason

Dweck Agree: The quote I used here “Are we raising kids who are obsessed with getting A’s”. I agree with this quote and also relate to it myself. A lot of times in high school, my parents were obsessed only with the grade I got in a class and that was it. When I read this it immediately resigned with me. Dweck Disagree: “We have already raised a generation of young workers who can’t get through the day without an…

Revision Plan, Paper 1 Colin Gleason

Overall I think I nailed my first draft of the first paper. My biggest concern with the project was that my ideas were unorganized. I feel I am a really good writer, my problem is organization, and eventually wrapping my ideas together to make sense to my claim. My peers liked my claim and my defending of my claims through out the paper. They liked how I defended my quotes and related to the articles. I am working best with…

Preliminary thoughts on Project 1. Colin Gleason

Preliminary thoughts on Project 1. Colin Gleason

Our first project is on the Dweck TED talk, and Lukianoff and Haidt’s Atlantic article. The assignment is a four to five page paper that compares and contrasts the two different articles. We have to state our position and who we agree with on the different approaches to learning in higher educations. When Cripps told us about our first essay, I was immediately a little scared, because my essay writing is definitely not my strong suit. The hardest part of…
