Integrating Ideas
The goal of the Integrating Ideas learning outcome is for students to be able to exchange their ideas with others using summary, paraphrasing, and analysis. From this learning outcome, knowing how to analyze a quote and how to understand it is a crucial part of this learning outcome. I definitely developed this over the course of the semester. At first, I did not understand what it meant. Then we learned about “They Say, I Say” and I got a further understanding of this learning outcome. Cripps stressed to us that writing at the college level is much different than writing in high school. In high school, summary and paraphrasing were huge parts of essays, and through Cripps, I learned how to write a college-style essay, which primary focus is on the author’s claim and being able to defend it. Quotations are a huge part of this. Understanding a quote that you put into your essay, and being able to defend the quote and tie it back to your claim is the main thing to be able to do. Throughout my significant writing project, I show less summary of the content, and include my point most clearly. I also make connections from both Scheuer and Ungar’s articles. Project 2 was the best display of this learning outcome. I believe that I really evolved throughout the semester and learned how to write in college.
