Gleason HW 10/21
Commonly, the liberal arts are accused of being worthless degrees, that do not prepare people for careers in any field. A liberal arts major can actually go into any different field. Some of the most successful people are liberal arts majors. Most times liberal arts majors are the higher ups in their companies. In the article “How Colleges Are Failing Liberal Arts Majors” by Alexis Zhang. She talks about how schools are not preparing liberal arts majors for success in the future. Zhang mentions that the classes being taught at certain schools do not prepare kids for future success. For example, she criticizes courses that are considered easy A classes and that “Introductory survey courses have disappeared in favor of boutique electives such as Middlebury’s “Mad Men and Mad Women”. She is saying that students are taking make up classes that don’t mean anything or teach kids anything. This could not be more wrong, how does pointing out the name of a class tell us what the value of a class is. This class could be pretty important. Also Middlebury is one the best schools in the country, where people receive liberal arts degrees then go on to become some of the highest paid people in the country with job titles like CEOs, and powerful politicians, and way more.
