Revised Paragraph 3 Gleason

Revised Paragraph 3 Gleason

Boyer’s idea of an enriched major is used to help students “put their potential field of study into perspective.” (Boyer) Boyers ideas are a way to help students find and determine whether or not a major is important and helps them discover their field in depth. There are three questions that help students determine whether or not their major is enriched. One of the questions is what are the social and economic implications. In the nursing program, the social implications come into play in the third and fourth-year curriculum with clinical programs. With clinical, nursing majors work as real nurses for a clinical requirement. This brings nursing students to the real field, where they socially work with other people to help find solutions to medical problems. Clinical provides hands-on experience for nursing majors.

At clinical, students are assigned patients who have real-life illnesses and they have to work on these people for classes and have to write papers reflecting their experiences. Every day, students work on the same patient so they get to know the patient and used to treat them. This is to simulate a real-life experience because real nurses usually work with the same patients day in and day out. I think that the way the nursing program is run, allows to smoothly transition majors from students at UNE to nurses in the real world. Basically the last two years of the nursing curriculum are a real-world experience that prepares students to be as successful as they can. Clinical provides hands-on experience for nursing majors.
